Baros is a compact island you can walk round in about 20 minutes, which keeps it quiet and easy to navigate. The house reef sits roughly 20 m off the beach, and the overwater Lighthouse restaurant gives couples a proper evening out without leaving the island. Speedboats meet flights at any hour, so a late arrival from the Gulf still reaches the villa the same night.

What to know before booking
Bed and breakfast is the base plan; half board, or the dine-around version that includes the other restaurants, suits guests who will eat on the island every night. Only the Water Pool Villas, Pool Villas, Suites, Residence and two-bedroom Retreat have private pools. Children under 8 are not accepted and there is nothing organised for older children.
Who it isn’t for
Families with young children, and anyone who wants several pools, a kids' club or a wide choice of restaurants. A larger family-oriented island such as Kuramathi Maldives is a better fit.

Met outside arrivals at Velana for the 25-minute speedboat; settle into the villa and walk the island's shoreline path.
Day 2

Snorkel the house reef from the beach, with a session alongside the resident marine biologist; lunch at Sails Bar.
Day 3
Serenity Spa
Morning yoga, a couples' treatment at Serenity Spa, then dinner over the water at The Lighthouse Restaurant.
Day 4
Out on the water
